Politics & Legal > Boy, Was I Naive!

Boy, Was I Naive!

I thought with the elections behind us that the smut campaign would stop. Wrong! I have already had several racial 'jokes' hit my mail box, and yesterday I received a particularly offensive piece, "The Making of a Fuhrer" by Ali Sina that came complete with Russian music in the background (an email with music embedded???) Why would a staunch patriotic Republican forward such an offensive piece? The author is Iranian! Don't anyone ever bother to check who the author is before forwarding such trash? That he is anti-Muslim does not make him pro-Christian or pro-American. It just makes him another disgruntled Iranian.

I have to say this. Because of the volunteer organization to which I belong, I probably have as many as 600 addresses in my Outlook Contacts address book. Less than 100 are 'personal'. (I get a lot of emails!) I got emails every day throughout the campaign bashing Obama, calling him everything from a terrorist to a Socialist, a Muslim sympathizer, oh, you have read it all yourselves. You know of all of the trash and slander thrown his way. What I am getting to is this: while I received very offensive emails maligning Obama, sometimes three and four in a single day, I never received ONE SINGLE email trashing McCain in like manner. What does that tell you? It tells me that right wing Republicans are prone to hate mongering, and I for one am glad that we have the opportunity to undo some of the harm done by these extremists over the past decade.

Another aside, but along the same vain: the purchase of assault rifles and other high power weapons has gone up 15% since the elections. I grew up with NRA and am 'soft' on gun ownership, but someone please tell me why anyone needs an assault weapon?? Is this how the right wing R extremists hope to regain power? Very scary.

I read a nasty blog yesterday about his citizenship being contested because his stepfather adopted him. He was born in America folks. That confers citizenship on him. I hope that he will be well protected from nuts with guns. Nobody needs an assault rifle except possibly the Police and the Military.

I was pro mccain... in the beginning. but all the hate that was spewing from republicans caused me to change my mind and my party affiliation. negativity turns me off.

I guess they are afraid the new Administration will reenact things like the Brady Act. I have a feeling it is like all of use when we are told that we can't have something. We instantly want it and insist that we should have it.
I am less soft on gun owndership so I agree with you.

Like you, I didn't even read those Obama-bashing emails, they were like a one-note song.

People need to face the facts, at least for the next 4 years Barack Obama will be our President. The people have voted..and this is what their choice is. Certain "groups" need to realize this and move on, this is a new time and a new beginning
