Bob in the Middle

Oh Dog What A Day.

It started out lovely. I put the kids on the bus, and headed out on cross country skis. The sun was just coming up, and it was so beautiful out! I regretted not having a good camera with me, just my cell phone camera because the sunrise was so beautiful - the mountains were pink!

Then I go to work. Holy crap. I'll make this as simple as possible - two people quit earlier in the year, in dramatic, yelling fashion. The main person they were upset with was the director - and she quit last week. So they asked if it would be okay if they came in and one of them renews their card. I said I think so.

So they came. I decided to let everyone working that they were coming, just so it wouldn't be a surprise and maybe cause a scene. Well, everyone, except me and a new employee that doesn't know them disappeared. Like really disappeared, two left the building, one did not come back until she phoned and made sure they were gone. I was totally stuck in the middle, with the acting director saying things to me, which I then passed on to them (like B is welcome to come it, but G isn't...), which I then told the acting director that I told them that (which surprised her - she probably didn't think I had the guts to tell them). But I was in a zone, like I know these two women, I really like them, but one is very bitter so I'm listening to what she says, but also holding her at arm's length because I don't want that bitterness in my life - and I want to cut through all the crap and be brutally honest with them.

I was a little worried about the acting director now knowing that I was still in touch with them - she didn't know that before, and one co-worker was VERY surprised that I am in touch with them (actually, 3 of us are, privately).

But after they left, and everyone came back out of hiding, I had some good talks with the acting director. She's actually much happier now, and is making plans for improvement and said quite a few times that she appreciates all the things that I do there.

So I go home, trying to relax, I'm so tense and wound up right now. I hated the feeling of being in the middle, but it also felt right. Someone needed to mediate, and I was just in the right position.

Then, I go look on Facebook, where I'm in touch with both former coworkers, and G says something about being told that she is not welcome there. Ugh, yes, *I* told her that. So I posted on her wall about it, and sent a personal message saying I'm sorry I had to say that, I don't want to be in the middle, and this is the end of it for me. Truly, she has no reason to come since she lives in the city and would use the city library instead of this small town library.

The other (who lives in town), I sent a message saying that she is welcome to come anytime, and the acting director & former coworkers said that.

Are you still reading this?? Wow! Thanks for hanging in there!

Anyway, I'm now feeling numb and I'm looking forward to a glass of red boxed wine, some TV and maybe a good night's sleep. Tomorrow, I go to grade 1 to make gingerbread houses with 6 year olds.

It happens all too often.

Yeesh! Poor you...but I have to say that I'm very impressed with the mature way you handled everything. I didn't know libraries could have so much drama.

Too many women working together makes the drama.

It's probably a relief to get that confrontation out of the way. Maybe now they have been back for that little visit they'll feel like they've got some kind of closure and can move on with their lives.

The whole thing happened something like 6 or 7 months ago, and
it seems like no one has moved on yet. And we still get people asking
where they are...

I'm usually pretty good at sorting things out, but this little soap opera has me in a tizzy! Hope the wine helped.

Yup, soap opera is what it is.
The stress caused me to get a massive two day headache.

You're making gingerbread houses with six year olds! I rather be Marg in the middle.

It turned out to be one 6 year old (mine), and 3 other kids either in
grade 2 or 3 (I didn't ask them). It was chaos! 14 houses were
made in total. There is a picture of my group's house on Facebook.
