Cassie

Cassie - my long and low girl - has been sick for a few days. Today is the first day she's been able to keep food down since Wednesday night.

Still, she's dehydrated. I've been giving her subcutaneous fluids since Friday. It works for a while but I have to do it every day.

She's 16 1/2 years old and we celebrated our 8 year "gotcha day" August 27.

She has another problem that developed a few weeks ago - panting without any exertion. The vet said maybe increased pain from her arthritis, maybe it's her heart.

No matter what, I'm not ready to say good bye.

She looks so sweet! We just lost our 12 yr old doxie. I haven't posted about it because I haven't been able to insert a photo!!! Arghhh. Eddie appears to be working on it.

Oh, I'm so sorry! I have been wondering about your dogs - I know how devoted you are to them. She's feeling much better. Back to hopping backwards on her hind legs at mealtime.

What a beautiful face she has. Always be thankful you gave each other so many hours of love and affection. When the time comes even though it breaks your heart, you let them go so they don't suffer. Nothing can compare to the love and trust of our fur babies. Give her a hug and a treat from me.

You're right, I don't want her to suffer.

Cassie is adorable -- I love her doggie smile. I know you will do everything you can. The sad truth is they don't have really long lives, but we can feel good about the life we gave them.

She has one of the best doggie smiles I've ever seen. And the best disposition. Tonight I gave her the sub-q fluids and she lay down while it was going in. She's just a sweetie.

wow!that is a long time there and still hanging around. That is interesting there about the panting without any exertion, noticed that my dog does this and he is thirteen but the health is good.I am sure that you had many fond days of him.Just remember the good times when he if pass. That is the secret as I learned on my first pet.We are never ready to say good by .
But then we have to let go so that it will not suffer.
