No More Twinkies

Goodbye, Twinkies, HoHos, DingDongs, Drake's, Wonder Bread. The bakers' union wouldn't compromise so there go 18000 jobs and lot of junk food. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Even the teamsters were working with the company. What will we do without our bad-for-us, squishy, white bread?

The nostalgia factor makes me sincerely hope a buyer takes over the operation.

Buyers are lining up for the different parts.

I used to eat Twinkies when I was in school. But I've given up on cheap treats for that special once-a-year slice of lemon meringue pie or killer chocolate cake (black forest).

Only once a year? You have will power!

Although I never ate them, I know you can't make them at home! I'm betting someone will take them over--if the price is right.

Sorry I stole your thunder with this post.

I won't miss any of it. I haven't eaten white bread since I met DH and if I want a sweet treat I'll go to a real bakery.
Twinkies, HoHos and DingDongs. Do you think they named that junk for kid appeal?

Hostess makes BeefSteak rye bread too. I love a good ham on rye.

I always liked Twinkies. We never eat white bread so I won't miss that.

I don't remember that last time I had a Twinkie. Or a DingDong or HoHo.

I never had a Twinkie or hostess cupcake.
The closest was Devil Dogs.Who made this.Them?
Really do not care, they are full of sugar and they are many others goodies out there better than twinkie.

Devil Dogs must be an east coast treat.

'Twinkies, HoHos, DingDongs, Drake's, Wonder Bread.' I haven't had any of those items in such a long time I don't remember the last time--won't miss them--there are a lot of other good bad foods for you!!
comment by greatmartin on Nov 16, 2012 8:46 AM ()
They are all full of the bad "white" stuff-sugar, flour.

You know, they said they didn't have the money for a "prolonged strike". Perhaps there was another option that would have prevented the strike altogether.

The company didn't have the money for a prolonged strike. Does that make sense?

The "bakers" union can join the list of intransigent idiots, right behind the Republican party. Besides, calling people who produce Twinkies and the like "bakers" is a bit of hyperbole, don't you think?
comment by steve on Nov 16, 2012 8:20 AM ()
That union covers many jobs, not just bakers. They are all out of jobs now.

Yesterday I was thinking about a world without Twinkies. There is a recipe I never tried where you arrange them in a baking dish and pour Jello over them and chill. Whipped cream would be a good garnish. Well, there goes that plan. Shouldn't have put it off. But wait! The shelf life on Twinkies is really long and I can probably pick some up today if there hasn't been a midnight run of Twinkie fanatics. There we go. Thanks for the reminder.

My target was out of Twinkies today.
