Hawk in Front Yard

So Monday morning I opened my front door to go out and get the paper and there was a flurry of wings on the ground by my porch. A juvenile red tailed hawk was under the bird feeder. I ducked back in the house and grabbed my camera which just happened to be on a table right by the door. I spent the next fifteen minutes taking pictures of the hawk through my living room window. It flew from the ground to a metal fence by the driveway and sat there a while. Then it flew over to a shepherd's hook which had a bird bath hanging from it and sat there for a while. Then it flew to the ground and sat next to the entrance to the chipmunks' tunnel for a while. Then it flew across the street and sat in a tall tree for a while. The whole time I was clicking away through the glass 7 feet away. What an exciting morning! I tried to post one of the shots-first time trying to post a photo. By the way, this bird was bigger than my cat!

How cool is that! I saw one snatch a pesky piney squirrel. I'll spare you the details.

I hustled my cat away from the door very quickly.

How exciting, and what a great opportunity to be able to take lots of pictures from inside the house. I never get enough of watching the birds and animals doing their thing.

I couldn't believe he didn't see me. I was so close.

It's so special when you get to see one of these beautiful birds. I had one land on the fence just five yards from where I sit at my computer. I reached to my right, picked up my camera, and took a photo thru double-paned glass window. The shot came out great, much to my amazement.

I was surprised that my pix came out as well as they did, between the blind slats, through the glass.

Rex caught one once and before I could get it away from him, he had killed
it. It's mate looked for it for days. It was sad.

Usually they get away. Fly off at the slightest movement.

He doesn't look very happy about you snapping his photo. Beautiful looking bird.

We have hawks all over the place--I love to watch them fly and hunt.

I watched three soaring together directly over my head last spring. I loved it.
