What a Night ... ..

With the really hot weather around here, I knew we would get a little break but it would also bring a lightening storm. I was right. It was quite a show last night and continued off and on all night.

I layed in bed with the shades up and watched the show while praying that we wouldn't have a lightening strike on our ranch. The ranch didn't get grazed this summer and the dry native grasses would turn to an inferno if struck by lightening.

I should have got the camera out and captured some of the scene... but didn't want to crawl out of bed. lol Soooo... here is a YouTube video shot near Mt. Ashland which is a couple of hours or more to the West of us. I'm playing it because it looks much the same as it did around here last night.

We could have more of the same this afternoon and tonight.

I love a good storm that doesn't carry the threat of real danger. Hope you're doing well today.

We have so much lightening in this area that we have been dubbed the "Lightning Capitol of the World". I love it, but my dogs shake uncontrollably. A few years back lightening hit the AC unit just outside my bedroom. Whoa! Now that was close- and expensive!

Beautiful pics on YouTube! But it is scarey. I remember when I was young, lightning struck something really close to where we were. It was frightening! Take care!!

I love to watch a good storm, but wouldn't want it to start any fires. That video was awesome

I like to watch storms too, but like you say only when there is no danger. it is a beautiful sight the way the lightning illuminates the sky during a storm. glad you got some rain with it so there were no fires!

I love to watch lightening, but I also know it could burn down our whole ranch or the adjoining forest.

I love to watch a lightening storm over the water, but not over land. How ya doing Ms. Oakley

We lived in Oregon for almost a year and I experienced my first lightening show in all four corners of the sky. We were driving from Bend to Madras, with my son in the back seat at nearly a year old. He got scared and was crying, so we had to pull over and I got into the back seat with him to comfort him. I had to distract him until we got home. It's an awesome thing to watch when it lights up like that, just like the video you posted, but it can also be quite scary.

That video is really amazing. We have been getting tons of thunderstorms this year. I really like to watch them, but it can be pretty tough on people who are less fond of them.
