The girl started out in Indiana and ended up in a sod house on the wind-swept plains of Colorado just East of Colorado Springs. Some would call her a hayseed which is another word for uneducated country person. I guess that does describe her. I prefer to think of her as pioneer stock.
In this picture she is seen with her oldest son who died in the flu pandemic of 1918. The next oldest boy is my father and next to him is my auntie.
Yep, this is my roots on my dad's side and that is my grandmother. She came from a family whose ancestry I have traced back many generations. It wasn't difficult to trace because her ancestry is Mormon and well documented. She is a Huntsman by birth and a cousin many times removed to the present Governor of Utah. Somewhere along the line, this part of the Huntsman family separated itself from the Mormon church. I don't even think my grandmother or her parents attended any church.
Now here is another hayseed trying to wash the family car. Yes, it was a green Studebaker whose paint always rubbed off on me when I tried to wash it.

And here is the red haired, freckled face hayseed boy I married. He was in my 1st Grade class, but I only got around to marrying the guy 9 years ago... the end of this month. Oops... forgot my own wedding anniversary date. Embarrassing!!!!

Okay... enough of my hayseed history. By-the-way, I borrowed that word from another blogger because I had forgotten about that word and it just did seem to fit my family. All hayseeds... every last one... well... up until the Governor of Utah, Jon Huntsman, Jr. lol
Annie :o)
