Update on Chance

Chance is back in school and his health is good. He still needs to work more on regaining use of his leg, especially his knee. After having been in a cast and then a brace for so long, he doesn't have much flexibility. He pretty much walks with a stiff straight leg.

He is very excited about Christmas vacation. It seems Chance and JR are off on a big adventure to Texas.

They are going on a White Tail deer hunt in Utopia, Texas which is near San Antonio. This was all Chance's idea. It will be his first deer hunting trip. He took the Hunter's Safety Course and so he is already to hunt.

JR already hunted this year and I thought that was the end of it... but nope... Chance wants to hunt and he has this opportunity in Texas. The hunt is all he can talk about the last few days.

Grandma here is happy for him, but a little upset that JR will be flying out of here the day after Christmas and will be gone the whole week. I spent last year in the hospital at that time from back surgery and now this year, I'm alone. I'll have to find something exciting to do.

Before the hunt, Chance will also be spending a week at Disneyland. Just between you and I, he is getting a bit spoiled, but we are all happy that he is here to do these things. The cancer is gone and hopefully, it will stay that way. Hopefully, this really scarey part of his life is past.

I'm alone on holidays a lot, too, and I usually forget to buy something festive for a treat to make it special, but this year I am determined to do that. Sometimes it is as simple as some pop (which we seldom buy) or a large bag of regular potato chips. Woo hoo! Be still my beating heart.

A week at Disneyland? There's not THAT much to do there, but I can see the need for a recovery celebration.

OH happy day!!!! Hope he just keeps on improving. David has been cancer free for about 2 1/2 years now. You can still see the affects of the chemo & radiation at times...he gets really tired easy sometimes & some days he just feels out of wack but all in all he is doing fabulous so I wish the same for Chance. Come Spend Christmas with us here in Hawai'i. Then we can take you around and show you the beauty of the islands.

I am glad he is doing well. The muscles definitely atrophy after a limb is casted. I had a similar problem after having an arm in a cast for 8 weeks. It even hurt really bad to straighten the arm at the elbow. It felt like I was tearing it apart. I assume they are doing some PT with him? That should really help.
