Wind Clouds

Several times a day I look at the image from the weather cam at the Fort Collins-Loveland (Colorado) airport that is pointed in my direction. I live down in a river valley, so don't have much of a horizon here, and that serves as my window to the world at large. Sometimes I catch some beautiful sunsets over the Rockies, and if I'm up early enough, the rising sun reflecting on the snow-capped peaks can make some fantastic colors.

Today, I see wind clouds crouching over the mountains. It blew like crazy last night, the wind chime on the back patio was clanking and the fox was barking and the tall trees were soughing.

We don't need more wind whipping the delicate squash and tomatoes I want to set out in my so-called garden and puffing dirt through the house next door where Mr. TroutBend thinks the furnace filter needs replacing. And we don't need the wind drying things out after the recent much-needed rain and snow storms.

Whenever you see the word "garden" in any of my posts or replies, close your eyes and move on. I don't want to depress you.

Wow! The clouds really do fall low over the horizon.Guess I never thought about how high the mountains are.

The flat land where the camera is has an altitude of 5280 feet or so (Denver is the Mile-High City) above sea level and the mountain peaks (in that gray half-circle) are 14,000 feet, so the mountains really loom up from the flat.

It was warm overnight, so I'm planting my vegetables out today. Wish me luck. We're in for some unsettled weather, but nights are supposed to stay at 38 degrees, nothing like you there in the tropics.

Since we can't see the wind, those clouds are a good indicator of what to expect.

Seeing this glimpse of the Rockies warms my heart with memories of my time in Colorado. I recall never quite knowing what the actual weather would be — unpredictable despite the weather forecasters best efforts. Wait a minute or an hour and be surprised. Must be a challenge to figure out just what those clouds and wind and mountain peaks are up to....

Just driving from the post office to our house we gain 1000 feet in altitude, so it can be pouring rain in one spot, then you round a bend and it's completely dry.

No mountains, or even hills for that matter, but Mother Nature does such great work I can, and do, spend hours looking out my window, or going down to Karen Bay which borders the property, at clouds, sun, sky, moon, stars, trees swaying in the breeze. I'll match our sunsets over the Everglades or our sunrises from the Atlantic Ocean over yours anytime--oh heck they are all beautiful--even the storms swirling--I LOVE Mother Nature--not too thrilled with her partner Father Time but that's another blog!
