Bonus Day

Today felt like Sunday to me, so since it's still Saturday, feels like a bonus day.

Blow dirt is coming in the heating vents of one of the cabins, noticeable amounts, so I think there is something wrong with the duct work. Maybe something came unhooked, and I'm praying that it's somewhere accessible.

Fishermen were going to rent that cabin this weekend, but the river rose too high, so they cancelled. But then some other fishermen called and reserved the cabin for Labor Day weekend, so that's wonderful, something to look forward to. They are from a nearby town, but want to get away to the mountains.

Monday or Tuesday the roofer is going to come give us an estimate on a metal roof for our house. On the phone he asked me what kind I want and I said "green." Apparently there are two kinds: exposed fastener and raised seam, plus different gauges of the metal. I'm researching online to get some ideas of what would be best up here. This isn't going to be cheap, but I've got my mind made up it's the thing to do in this wildfire zone.

Thursday morning:

It's breezy here now, bringing the next bit of weather.

I guess they insulate the metal?

"This Old House" has done several segments on the advantages of metal roofs, as has designer P. Allen Smith, has used them exclusively on his new building project, a farm in Arkansas. Those pros seem to prefer standing seams in their projects. The other cool green thing that they do in conjunction with the new metal roof is an installation of a gray water holding tank to use run-off from the roof for gardens, lawns, etc. Makes tons of sense to me.

The only people in Colo who can legally collect rainfall are those who use well water and have gotten a special permit from the state water authority. This is because every drop of water that falls belongs to someone downstream. The only other state with this kind of law is Utah.

I can do heat better than cold. I think a metal roof would be wonderful.
Maybe the drought is broken with your snow and our five and a half inches of rain. The wild fires just keep springing up.

It'll dry out when the heat finally comes if we don't have a good monsoon season. Last fall we should have been getting a little rain every day or so, and there was nothing at all. But I'm keeping a good thought.

Ouch--the snow photo!! Like Martin, when I saw your post title, I assumed this was about the no-show "Apocalypse". I've thought about a metal roof. Rare for around here.

I'm probably going to be shocked by the price, but they are all the thing up here. We didn't put them on the other cabins because they are in the flood plain and can't be improved on or rebuilt after a flood.

Of course it is a bonus day--every day from now on is bonus day since the world didn't end--lots of time to get things done!

You are so right, it's like a reprieve. Get out there and find some new restaurants to review, I'll go finish a quilt.

Ah, snow. It's 92 degrees here.

It's hard to believe there is warm weather anywhere, seems like summer is never going to get here. Of course, when it's 95 degrees on the back porch, I'll be pining for the cold again.
