Warm Days

I decided my days were too centered around the television and the Internet, so I put both my laptops in the den for a couple of days and did some office work while listening to Internet radio. When it was time for a break I listened to Spike Jones on my iPod outside in the sun while I knitted.

But time got away from me, and it's been too long since I talked to you all.

First off, here's a picture from one of the local papers. It shows Longs Peak and Mount Meeker in the background. I'm sorry the truck cuts off part of Mt. Meeker, but it's still a good shot of Longs Peak. This view dominates our area and I would paint it if I knew how to paint. One of these days I'll try, but my fear is that my rendering will fall so short of my expectations.

The fox (I think) dug this hole in the foundation of the garage. Yes, this is a true 'fox hole' if he dug it. Skunks would dig that kind of hole in that kind of location, but it doesn't smell like they have been around. I didn't know it was there until I saw the bear try to stick his head in it. I filled it in loosely with dirt, and we'll probably put some heavy rocks there.

When the weather was snowy I put some homemade bread cubes out for the fox and the squirrels helped themselves. I like the tree squirrels and hope the fox doesn't eat them. They scold him from high up in the trees.

What a joy it must be to live where you do with the view and the animals to keep you company.

It makes up for the non-joy of living in Las Vegas part of the year.

Both my parents were good artists (and musicians), but that talent skipped (eluded) me. You're a good photographer, however! Me, too??

One of these days you'll manage to post of picture. I suspect the file size is the problem. There is a way to fix that, but it's complicated to explain.

It just stands to reason that a handsome guy like your fox has babies some
where.

Early this morning he came in the yard with a small dead rodent in his mouth. He buried it in the yard while he ate some breakfast from me, then dug it up and carried it off maybe in the direction of where the family might be.

Great photos. Love your squirrel. I worry if your fox is getting enough to eat. More bread cubes please.

He's been catching rodents, and I have been giving him ground chuck and pancakes and spaghetti and cottage cheese.

Yumm Homemade bread cubes! Do you think your squirrels will share with me?
comment by nittineedles on May 8, 2011 5:46 PM ()
Since it's spring, they just might share with you. It's a different story in the fall because the squirrels get serious about storing food away.

Nothing like the Colorado mountains! Love your wild friendly visitors, too!

I'm doing some of each thing today - cooking, blogging, computering.

Make sure you don't bury any cubs in the foxhole--on the other hand if it is a skunk hole get ready to be sprayed!
We don't know from mountains--or even hills--in Florida so go ahead and paint it--we won't know if it is a good version or not--also if it doesn't turn out the way you want you can always call it 'modern'.

I suspect there might be baby foxes somewhere around here this year, but the mother is so skittish around people I don't know if we'll ever see them.
