Waiting for the Storm

There is heavy rain in our forecast, but meanwhile it's sunny and warm.

Meanwhile, here is how our high mountains looked this morning, July 5 2011:

Here is how they looked on June 18, not so long ago. The recent hot weather and some rain storms have melted a lot of the snow.

We might get hail this afternoon, so I have some bedsheets at the ready to cover my vegetables.

Great views. Rainy season is here with a vengeance, interfering with all outside stuff and giving all the mosquitoes a great environment. I spray and spray and they find the one spot I missed. Still, I love rain.

And that's just high chop moving through fast, no rain there.

Please, please, please send some of that rain our way. We need it so badly.

It seems like this past winter and even now the jet stream moisture is to the north, so I am at the bottom edge of it here, and down where you are is ever do dry. There is always hope that the El Nino/El Nina patterns will resolve to something else and the places that really need some moisture will get it. But not too much, of course.

It's rainy season here--around 4-5 it gets as dark as night--rains come flooding everything and 2 hours later you wouldn't know it rained!!

I'm picturing the same humidity before, during and after the rain storms.

I'm too impatient to wait around for the photos to show up. I trust your judgment. Wait--there they are! No sermons, please!

No lectures, I'm used to stubborn men who march to that drum inside their head - the beat of which others can only be glean over time.

When I lived in Vermont in the 1970s, the summer was hot and muggy and we'd go for a drive in the car so we could use the air conditioning. There was a big shed with a tin roof across the street from me, and when the rain came, it thundered down onto that roof.

It is my favorite view, I grew up seeing it every day. Right now, I live right up in those hills (if you look close you can just about see me waving), but am so fortunate to have found a web cam at the airport so I can look at it any time I want.
