The Roof is Done & Animal Update

The roof is done, and looks very nice.

Friday they are going to put the left-over metal on two other buildings:

Jazz Mama

and a little traditional outhouse behind our garage that has a wooden roof. We use it for storing yard tools.

The Jazz just has rolled roofing plus a big rubber sheet. They are going to apply the metal on top of what is there.

We've already paid for the metal, and they said the labor would be about $200.

Animal update:

Quackers really missed the roofers today, and was ecstatic when they showed up this afternoon to clean up the yard. He will be thrilled when they return on Friday.

This is one of the naps, balancing on one foot for some reason. The dangling foot gradually descends to the concrete, and I wonder if this explains why the middle toenail is missing - maybe it has gotten worn down.

And early this evening Quackers was out front chilling, and the fox showed up in back. He stayed back there, but while he was eating I hustled Quackers into the safety of the garage. Fortunately he was willing to go in there.

So far, the fox seems to have forgotten about Quackers, which is great. Maybe he thought it was a hologram of a goose. Remember how I said the fisherman was able to hit the fox on the nose with his hat when he was facing off with Quackers? I checked tonight and there is no way the fox will let me that close to him. I wish I'd seen that.

Sometime next week I will take Quackers to his new home.

I've been doing a lot of knocking on wood - landscaping ties, some of them are rotting out, we're trying to figure out what to do about it.

It's a relief to get it done. And now we've got a handy man who says he can do anything.

Wasn't there a fable by Aesop about a fox and a goose? Or maybe you can write one. Just give it a happy ending. No fox eating the goose.

It was the fox and the grapes (he couldn't reach them, so claimed he didn't want them anyway) and goose that laid the golden eggs. I would be flummoxed if this goose were to produce an egg, golden or not.

The fox has such straight front legs. Guess I'm used to looking at a coonhound!

Foxes legs are so dainty and long, like a cat on stilts.

Quackers seems to like it where he is. I hope he adjusts. The fox doesn't seem to care. Why not name him Rommel? (His nickname was the Desert Fox in case you have forgotten). The roof looks really nice.

It's not very desert-like here. And I can't imagine bringing up the name of some Nazi as a label for this sweet fox. Each time I take food out to him, he momentarily looks directly at me as if to say 'thank you.'

Nice that you will get a few extra miles out of the metal from your roof.

Really, really nice. This stuff costs like it's made of gold. And to be able to have these guys install it without going through the roofing company is great. I have lots of projects they could do around here, save Mr. YouKnow's back and bowling arm from overwork.

Thanks, Fredo. I was reading about the big power outage back east and thinking nobody is immune from disaster this year. I'll bet your glad you have your generator just in case.

The house really looks great and isn't it nice to have the left over metal
for the other two buildings.

And when YouKnow gets home from Las Vegas, they will all three be done. That's really something.

We have smoke here today from that fire in Wyoming that is not too far from you. I can't wait for this summer to end - I just hope it DOES end and we get a more normal winter. Take care.

And here you go busting up a romance--Quackers and Fox were meant for each other!!!

I never get over the way birds can bend their necks!!!
comment by greatmartin on July 3, 2012 7:56 PM ()
It's like Romeo and Juliet, isn't it? It has been educational to watch all the grooming and neck bending.
