Nevada Caucus

No, I am not watching the local news.

Mr. Troutbend donated blood at a bloodmobile this morning and then stopped at Red Rock Casino because it is a bonus point day on video poker and slots. When he was ready to come home for lunch, he couldn't get out of the parking garage because huge media trucks from CNN and the local stations were headed up to the roof of the structure so they could cover whatever there is about the Nevada Republican Caucus proceedings. The guard estimated the ramp would be closed for another 30 minutes, so Mr. TBend went back inside and gambled some more.

I told him 'likely story, think of another one.' Actually, I didn't care, and give the devil his due, it's a pretty good excuse as those things go.

The blood drive was interesting - it was at a Sinclair gas station/convenience store, sponsored by them as advertising for their services. So they gave him a whole bunch of neat snacks to replenish his energy for the drive home.

It worked, because now we know where to find a 24/7 post office/UPS shipping store/notary public near here because they offer all those services in addition to the gas and C-store.

I am through giving money to the Dems and Nancy P. is the worst. She wants
ten dollars just for mailing costs as well as your donation. I will support
Obama and that really makes me unpopular in Oklahoma.

I don't get solicitations because I'm registered as Independent. I guess that's the reason.

I wish we had legalized gambling here in Cow Snot. As it is, we have to go across the Colorado line (about 10 min. away) to buy lotto tickets. but at least the circus has moved onto another state and you don't have to put up with the snakes, weasles and douche bags for awhile.

Judging by the news stories, Nevada did a horrible job - it took them far too long to get the results out, among other things and some lying. No surprise, and I was going to say 'just disappointment' but can't say it's any less than I expected. I don't know why Nevada wanted to get involved in this in the first place.

Just wrote another letter to the local paper decrying the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision since it legitimizes the buying of politicians by special interests. Remember when the worst thing you could say about a politician was that he was bought? Suddenly that's okay? I wonder if they will print it.

It's gotten to the point where they're considered 'no good' if they're NOT bought.

A real all-purpose store...not many of those left.

We could probably get stuff notarized for free at the bank, but I'm not sure, so it's good to know about this alternative.

Most I ever got for donating blood was a small cup of juice... but I didn't donate in Vegas...
comment by jjoohhnn on Feb 5, 2012 11:26 AM ()
There was also a $5 card for gasoline. Because it's Vegas, the blood company always gives some kind of free show tickets. Last year it was Penn and Teller (but we never managed to get there when the ticket was good) and yesterday it was the Popovich Comedy Pet Circus. We've seen it before, but didn't have good seats, so we'll go again. It's dogs and cats (about 25 of them) climbing poles and driving fake cars.

He (and you know who I mean) used to be registered Republican, but he changed it to Independent like me. We always end up voting opposite, so we don't discuss politics around the house (or out driving around).

I Am so sick of hearing about the repubs already... and it's only just begun. I wish I could go gamble now!

Whenever I think of the El Cortez downtown, I think of you going there.

Why is so much money being wasted?? At the convention let them vote and that's it--WE don't really choose the winner!
comment by greatmartin on Feb 4, 2012 6:19 PM ()
I wonder that, too. I suppose it is a form of focus group so they know where to pile their money, but it still makes no sense.

Good for Mr. TB. For the life of me, I just can't figure out why states have caucuses in the first place. It's taking forever to count the votes. A long evening for those of us in the news biz.

I think this is the first year Nevada has held caucuses (there was a big fuss to make sure they weren't scheduled ahead of the other states), and they aren't very good at it. They aren't very good at much of anything political unless it's how to be corrupt.
