I should be out there taking pictures of this weekend's guests fishing with their dogs alongside. They are some kind of strange-looking German hunting dog, and just stand patiently in the water next to their masters' feet.

The summer river rolls on, and the fishing is good.

My garden is flourishing and there will be some zucchini for harvest next week.

I thought this was funny. Someone emailed it to me, but it probably came from Facebook:

One of the dogs has a white patch on top of his head - looks like one of the characters in that movie Gremlins. You should have seen them fishing - just standing there peering out into the water next to the owner.

My uncle who has an Indian trading post has just about every piece of junk mail he ever received. I'm always promising myself I'll go see him and stay up late feeding a bunch of it into the fire.

Google this: Slovakian Rough Haired Pointer and then imagine them with scragglier hair (from being in the river) and a look in their eye like the hounds of hell. Someone brought a dog like Rex fishing one time, and the dog stayed with him, but not as well as these dogs did.

I have two kinds of zucchini plants, one is a smaller, patio hybrid, and it's behind the other one for fruit production. I think this earliest one is called Tigress Hybrid, and it's a standard-sized plant, 49 days to maturity, virus tolerant.

Even without a fishing pole, it's fun to stand on the bridge and watch the fish, and the hummingbirds are flying over the water catching bugs. I you've got some red on your clothing, the birds will come right up to you.
