Limber up Your Wallet

We don't buy things very often because we have so much stuff at our two houses, there is very little we want for. If I see some cute little doo-dad in a catalog that looks like it'd be fun to have, I cut out the picture and glue it into my scrapbook where I can look at it any time I want, and that works for me. If I see it online, I store the image in a file called My Catalog of Things.

I find that once I start spending, it gets easier and easier to order things online or even go shopping in local stores. It's not all for fun: the door on my microwave cracked, and it's time for a new one. Poor Mr. Troutbend will have to figure out how to install it unless I can talk him into letting the store send someone to do it.

And I have decided I want a Lazy Boy sectional in my family room, one of those where a sofa has recliners in it. We usually buy used furniture, but since I don't think I'll find what I want at the consignment store, I'm willing to buy something new. They're having a sale right now, such as it is: I think they mark things up so they can mark them down and call it a bargain.

I am on the list for several catalogs and they always have something I want that will make something easier to do. So I pace myself -- no more than one or two purchases a month. And now that it's the season, I am overwhelmed with new catalogs coming in. I made a turkey but my side dishes were a cop-out. I used Stove Top stuffing. I did sweet potatoes -- just boiled, then mashed with some butter and brown sugar. Perfect. Anyway, that was the "after the day" turkey because we went to a friend's for Thanksgiving. And Ed wanted more turkey. We'll be eating it till Christmas.

The nice thing about Stove Top Stuffing for two people is it's a small quantity in the box, and it's easy to just use the bread crumbs of it with fresh ingredients if you want to get fancy, but you don't even have to do that, it's still good.

I keep trying to convince my daughter that nothing new can come into the house unless something else goes out. We have too much stuff after combining several households. It is a lost battle.

Yesterday I told my husband "I wish that buying things would make me feel better, because I could really use the pick-me-up that retail therapy seems to give a lot of people. But I don't really like shopping, especially this time of year, and I don't want a bunch of new stuff to figure out what to do with." It's that feeling when you want to eat something but nothing sounds good, so you don't, and just go on feeling miserable.

Food is an easy gift except when someone is on a special diet.

Be sure and get something super comfortable to laze around on. Go to
Linda's facebook to see all of the pictures.

We don't have a large area for a sectional, unfortunately, so I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed in some respects.

One reason we never go looking for bargains is we might see something too good to pass up.

I just want to get over this.

Mr. Troutbend feels the same way.

Every holiday the supermarkets increase the price of nuts - everything from peanuts to almonds, pecans, etc. That's how they can sell those turkeys so cheap. LOL.
My wish list is always changing and it wasn't so long ago that I wished for white Christmases. Not these days!

Pecans went down a little bit this year - I didn't buy any at all last winter. But I know what you mean. How about the price of spareribs? They used to be a cheap cut of meat, but now that they are trendy, they cost like steak.
