Foxes

We are all waiting for my regular fox to make an appearance. Of course, there is no guarantee that he survived the winter, so we might wait forever.

Meanwhile, the other fox showed up yesterday afternoon. I've been putting out dog biscuits every night, and the other night when it snowed, there were so many tracks, it looked like a whole pack of animals had been out there: far too many prints for a single fox. It could easily have been coyotes or even dogs: the prints seemed a little large, but I'm not sure.

This is a picture of her from last year, and looking at it, maybe what I saw yesterday was a completely different fox. These wild foxes don't stick around for pictures, they take off as fast as they can when they see movement in the house. I will put out some dog biscuits and sit by the window in hopes of a another appearance.

I hope your fox survived the winter... I LOVE the pics you are able to get.

It's amazing how that fox will just stand still for pictures. If he doesn't show up this summer, I'll be tempted to post pictures from previous years and pretend he's still coming to see us.

She'll be back--she knows where she has it good!

Unless he's dead. Every time he was here I knew it could be the last, so I always took as many pictures as I could.

Just remember, if your regular fox never comes back it doesn't mean he has come to a sad end. He may have moved his family further from your home, to better hunting grounds or maybe just found someone who bakes better rolls and lasagna.

That's a good way to look at it. Reminds me of people who told their kids their dear dog went to live on a farm.

You're right, I keep forgetting that in years past it was three or four weeks before he showed up.

I have been missing your fox and his antics. I expect him to be with
you again soon. Warn Eloise.

The fox is more frightened of the cats than they are of him, but I wouldn't want to press it. Last year, Eloise watched him through the window and they made eye contact once in awhile.

Foxes are such beautiful creatures. Neat photos.

I never dreamt I'd get to know a fox. You missed out on last summer's goose experience and I never dreamt I'd get to know a goose, either. I think the fox was insulted that we were so worried that he would eat the goose.

It would be so sad if your fox didn't come back, but if so then we want you to make friends with one of the newcomers. Now you need some kind of wildlife camera setup in the yard.

We were talking about setting up a camera to catch the beavers working on their dams at night. It was so dry last summer we didn't see much of the them, though. I suppose we could do one for the wild foxes; it'd give us something to do.
