Here's Our Fox

I want to show you how much the fox has changed over the past couple of months. He has lost his winter coat and a new one is starting to grow in. He comes around most days, lately around noon and later around supper time.

I give him bread, and leftover cooked meat. No bones, and not very much so he'll keep us his rodent hunting skills. He seems to have decided that dog biscuits are just for burying. He picks them up in his mouth, sometimes two at a time and trots off with them to somewhere in the yard, digs a little hole with his paws, drops in the biscuit and uses his nose to cover it over. Sometimes he seems to wait around for this, and it is the signal that his visit has ended.

What's he going to do when we are gone for the winter? Catch rodents like he did last winter.

I rarely see them around here, but I did note a road kill the other day. My SIL has chickens, never a fox in the henhouse--yet. Coyotes, yes.

Oh, he's beautiful! I wonder how fox fur would spin up?

My neighbour's dog fur had poo in it but washing it three or five times got rid of the stench and her newly knit dog hair purse smelled just fine.

Not sure, and I don't know how you'd gather it up. Also, I heard that they have an odor to them, so the fur might be kind of whiffy.

I think he's adorable.

I like that last picture where it looks like he's laughing.

He is cute as can be. He is probably using your scraps for dessert.

We don't know where he goes on the days we don't see him, hope he's not out playing in the traffic.

Handsome critter. He is bonding as much as a Fox can bond. I love his dark legs!

I am surprised at how much his appearance has changed. My favorite thing is when he stretches those long black legs out in front of him.

Good thing you don't have any chickens....you know the old story about the fox in the henhouse. I'm afraid my dad would have been after him with a shotgun because a fox will kill chickens and suck the eggs.

That's for sure, farmers have no love for foxes. One reason is they will kill all the chickens at one time. There are two theories about this - the fox might be planning to come get the bodies to bury for later, or he sort of panics because the chickens are one prey animal that doesn't run away (can't, inside the chicken house) so the fox kills them all at once.

awe... I hope he's not waiting around for days for ya... I feel for the lil man or lady... I do find the fox simply adorable!!!

It's interesting to see what spooks him - he doesn't like the sound of the lawn sprinklers and thinks the hanging planters on the back patio are predators so he cringes when he catches a glimpse of a petunia from the corner of his eye.
