Football

I hope this finds you all doing well.

I am enjoying the football on TV today, even though the Denver Broncos lost their game against the Ravens. It's nice when my team wins, but not critical to my happiness.

The commercials during football games are some of the best on TV. There is one for a chicken wings restaurant that is Superbowl quality: it shows the groundsman at a football stadium selectively activating the sprinklers on the field to distract the other team and help the home team win.

Right now I'm watching the San Diego - Oakland game, and it's pretty close so far. The Raiders are a traditional bitter adversary of the Broncos. I remember back when John Madden was their coach they seemed to play dirty and have a lot of tricky plays, but they probably weren't all that bad, it's just how I remember it.

This morning I got up early and turned up the heat in the house from the 55 degrees the thermostat was set at. What a luxury to have heat, I never take it for granted. I have lots of layers on, so am warm and toasty.

Our weather is blustery looking, but not very cold, in the mid-50s. There was rain down in the flat lands, but not up here. They needed it to put out a couple of brush fires.

Have a nice rest of the weekend, you all.

Mid 50's? We finally dropped into the low 80's!

Up until last Sunday we were flirting with the 80s quite a bit, too. Now we're finally in more of an early fall weather pattern with almost freezing at night and low 70s during the days.

Good week to you, thanks...

I'm trying to keep a good thought and make it a good week. We finally got some long overdue rain today.

I put my scare crow outside to welcome Halloween. Football and fall
go together. I donated the straw hat I got in the bahamas to the
scarecrow.

I'll bet that scarecrow is really cute with that tropical hat on.

My packers lost... You sound nice and toasty.

Have you seen that NFL.com commercial about all the fans going to their home games? The Packers fans are well-represented.

My back door got a workout over the weekend with me coming and going between football and splitting wood. Split, then sit, over and over. I also ran 15 miles Sat. and Sun. And a word of warning: I signed up for a WV trip to Utah again--near Moab (Negro Bill Wilderness Area, which I had never heard of)--for next April. That gives you 6 months to prepare--that is, IF I stop coming or going.

That's a good time of year to go to that area, the days don't get so hot and in fact it's on the chilly side, especially at night. It'd be nice to see your smiling face and get caught up on your travels since I last saw you. Hope your dad's doing okay today.

I always watch the ball. I am told that's not all there is to it. I am football illiterate.

Sometimes the announcers will be carrying on about something and I have to get a translation from Mr. Troutbend.

Put your feet up and enjoy the game, keep warm

Had a beer, too.

The closest I ever came to watching football was socializing at Grey Cup parties. Grey Cup, that's football. Right?
comment by nittineedles on Oct 10, 2010 4:00 PM ()
Had to look it up - the Grey Cup is like our Super Bowl, and where I'm from that day is a religious holiday, with serious eating and socializing and lots of time to knit.
