Lilacs! I've got to go buy myself one! Thanks for reminding me, they're great.

I'll bet there are all kinds of varieties available these days. I am trying to root some lemon verbena branches to start a new bush away from the garage.

Aren't lilacs wonderful? Since I'm south of you, I've just finished deadheading mine so they'll bloom out good next spring.

I didn't know the deadheading would help. They bloomed later here this year and have lasted longer than usual. I'm not sure why.

You always seem to have vibrant vegetation with little rain!

When it's really dry, we water the yards. But overall, it's surprising at how adapted the columbines in particular are to dry conditions.

I love the scent of lilacs and was hoping I could dry the flowers and strategically place them around my wool to deter moths but when I did some research I discovered moths enjoy lilacs even more than I do.

I didn't know that about the moths. We've got some cedar tree pieces that smell so good and are putting some of them in the drawers.

All too beautiful ... great photos.

Thanks. I have so many pictures stored up, I've been going through and deleting the not so great ones.

I love flowers and I love those that have an aroma--some of Mother Nature's finer work of art!!!

I thought of you when I was looking at the lilacs because you said you missed them.

You're welcome! I hope you post some pictures of your garden some time.

The columbine is is a favorite of mine. I wish I could grow them here.
Is it fragrant like the honeysuckle and the lilac?
comment by elderjane on June 18, 2013 1:28 PM ()
I don't know if they have a scent or not. I'll go smell one tomorrow. My guess is that they don't. I love the scent of iris, although not all of them have a scent.

You must have some interesting bushes and perennials in your yard there. Let us know some time.
