Buy Me a Beer, Make it a Bud

The other day, the famous Budweiser Clydesdales paraded through our nearby town, delivering beer to restaurants and bars in downtown Loveland. The Budweiser brewery near us was completed 25 years ago, and there is a stable there for the hitch of Clydesdales, but they are seldom seen in this area because they are on tour so much of the time.

They were hitched up in the Safeway parking lot, and a lot of folks turned out to observe. The crowd was quiet and respectful, snapping pictures and chatting quietly.

The eight horses were unloaded one at a time, given a brushing to touch up their finery. There were ribbons tied to their manes and even a little fan thing on the top of their tails that were tucked up and tied. The clomping of their large hooves on the trailer floor was really something to hear.

Then, each horse was hitched to the wagon, and the first ones waited very patiently until the whole hitch of eight of was completed. Then, the Dalmation, Chips, came out of the accessory truck, and off they went.

By this time we were thirsty, so we stopped at the liquor store on the way home and bought some beer.

They look great for sure ,and a lot of people forget how big they are .
Local brewery here called Coopers also has a team pulling cart with the old wooden kegs that always draws a crowd

My dad said my grandfather raised Percherons (those black and white draft horses) to sell to circuses. Wish I'd seen that.

Now I feel like a beer.

I know! I proposed stopping by the liquor store on the way home, but Scrooge said we had a Corona in the fridge.

They seem to enjoy their celebrity.

They sure do! I was wondering if the horses wondered why there wasn't a band and more of parade than just them, but they were the star of the show.

We really enjoyed seeing it behind the scenes and up close.

I love that last shot where the two horses have their heads together. I remember my aunt & uncle, back in the late Forties, lived next door to a small fire station in upstate NY and there was a Dalmatian fire dog that lived there.

He's my favorite part of the hitch, and every advertisement, every picture, I'm looking to what the dog is doing.

You forget how huge they are until you see them with their handlers.

Those horses are giant! I was surprised how the general public is allowed to hang around really close while the horses are unloaded and hitched up.

Good thing they're friendly.

It would be something to see one of them rear up like the Lone Ranger's horse did on that hill top, but they must be totally accustomed to crowds and situations with people - I never saw a hint of nerves.
