Family Photos

Okay, as promised, here are some pictures of the cousins who left this early morning.

Five kids, 9, 7, 6, 3, 1. They are very nice kids with wonderful personalities, and the parents are managing things with as much grace and finesse as possible under the circumstances.

Thomas. That cardboard next to him represents prison, so he doesn't touch the baby in her car seat.

On this trip they came here from Dallas in one day, went to Lander, WY and Yellowstone, and then Park City, Utah. Back here for three nights, and from here to visit someone in Tulsa, and then back home to Dallas. They don't eat at restaurants, the road food is all organic stuff the mom puts together. On the way here the family ate twice-baked potatoes wrapped in bacon, and baked oatmeal. She said the potatoes weren't very good cold, but she thought they were easy for the kids to hang onto and eat. The dad eats gluten free, so she doesn't like to serve a lot of sandwiches.

The mom is the eldest daughter of my first cousin Cathy, so that makes her my second cousin.

Very cute kids. All those bicycles sort of scream togetherness, don't they? Everybody gets wheels.

Isn't it something? And helmets, too. One of the days they were here the dad took the boys for a ride around Lake Estes to burn up some of their excess energy.

That's the kind of mom I want to be! Organic and I want to grow a lot of my own!

Also, she gets her eggs and meat from local farmers. It takes more effort and money, but I think it's worth it for your child's health.

Wish I'd thought of flattened boxes for my kids.

What was funny to me was how the prisoner was not bothered about it at all, but I don't know much about kids.

this is wonderful and love to see family like this enjoying the outdoor life.
Hope that their stay was wonderful and good memories of it.

They seemed to be having a great time, and it was a lot of fun. The nice part was they came for a few days, left, and then came back for some more days.

Great pics, looks like a nice family.

They really are nice kids. There is a lot of parenting going on there, so for the most part the kids don't act out to get their parents' attention. I don't know if there is TV at home, but they didn't watch it all here - they go outside and play. They also don't eat junk food: the mother is in an organic vegetable co-op, and she buys her meat and eggs from the farmers who raise them.

Kids are really sweet ... mother deserves a medal for her diligence and grace.

Boy, I'll say. I didn't tell her this, but I think it's a good thing she didn't get married until she was 28, because it has shortened her fertile years somewhat.

Are those bikes on the back really secure????
comment by steeve on Aug 16, 2013 7:13 AM ()
It looks like a haystack of bicycles. On the way through the Texas panhandle last week, the highway patrol pulled them over, gave a warning for being slightly over the speed limit, and commented that there sure were a lot of bicycles, so maybe the patrolman was asking the same question you did.

The kids are adorable and I see that they have plenty to occupy them in
the way of trikes and bikes!

I really don't know how they got it all in the car. Good thing she was able to do laundry in the guest house. When they arrived, she had a bunch of boxes of produce and she just emptied out the pantry at home into a box and brought it. She said her rich mother-in-law won't let her fancy kitchen get messed up, so they have to eat sandwiches the whole time they are at the in-laws. And then she did a lot of home-cooking while they were here.

wow! traveling with 5 kids! brave souls they are! sounds like a nice family, i especially like the prison box!

That was so funny. They were leaving for church, and the dad was out there flattening the boxes and cramming them next to Thomas. "Now Thomas, this is prison! You are not to touch your baby sister!" The dad sounded really mad, and Thomas was all okay with it. And then, they left it in place, so it wasn't just for that day, must have been festering for awhile.

great looking typical family of five

It's a family of seven if you count the parents. I am waiting to see if they have more kids.

On another subject--in this week's issue of Time magazine there is a story about more people coming to Las Vegas but less gambling, which isn't good for the city!

Did it say the nightclub and restaurant scene is getting bigger? The casinos are busy ripping out features that are free to look at - the live lion habitat at the MGM, the fountains at the Paris, the 911 memorial at New York New York - and putting in nightclubs where vodka is $200 - $500 a bottle. And there are a couple of new gun ranges on the Strip.
