The Deep Freeze

No, not the one down in the garage, the weather. I was just reading about the arctic swoosh or whatever they called it dipping down into the Midwest and Eastern states. That weather you all just had with all the cancelled flights in Chicago didn't come from here - we were 10 degrees warmer than normal here. But tonight is a different story. It snowed most of the day, and I've got about 4 inches out there. The town where I buy my groceries has twice as much, but because the weather has been so warm in between cold snaps, their roads aren't that bad.

You can blame some of your next wave of cold on us if it heads east. I'm expecting a couple of degrees below zero tonight and tomorrow night.

Northwest Ohio has set numerous all time cold weather and snowfall records this January, like -15 air temps/-35 wind chill/50+ inches of snow.... I'm thinking with climate change this may be the new winter normal. Ooooo boy.

Besides the odd weather, we see all these invasive weeds flourishing that we never had before. The flood cleaned out a bunch of them, but we're going to have to hop right on it to make sure good cover crops get established and crowd out the weeds that will come.

We need to organize a little field trip for you to experience the dry heat/cold of the American southwest.

Tomorrow it is suppose to be in the low 40's here, then it will get cold again for a day or so and then it will warm up again.

That's how it's doing here in Colorado, too. It's going to warm up to almost 50. The river ice should have gotten thicker with this recent chill, and I'm going to walk across to the parts of the other bank that we can't get to, just to see what the view is from there.

You talking about human bugs?!?!?!

Bugs like the ones that starred in Men in Black.

we have the same problems all week and now a warm up ,rain and freezing rain is in the forecast.I need to find an escape weekend there.

Freezing rain is the worst. I'd rather deal with deep snow.

We have light snow and frigid temperatures. It will be very cold tonight
and tomorrow night. The red cabin is peeking through the trees.

We are suppose to only have a high of 62 degrees on Tuesday BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Okay, okay--I'm not feeling the sympathy!
comment by greatmartin on Jan 4, 2014 7:12 PM ()
One thing is that we don't have the humidity here that they have other places, so it's a drier cold, just like we'll say 'it's a dry heat' in the summer.
reply by troutbend on Jan 6, 2014 6:44 PM ()
We don't mind the cold so much because it means our bugs can't grow to be 12 inches long like in Florida.
