It's been awhile since I visited all the sites I've bookmarked to do with the flood. I found a picture of myself taken by the church group that came here in October to help move flood debris up to the highway.

The day after they were at my house, they went further down the road to help shovel out a B&B in Drake. The road opened up at a certain time so I had an idea of when they would go by. I decided the nicest thing I could do to let them know I was grateful for their help was be there to wave at them as they went by, so they weren't just looking at the empty turnoff where they spent the previous afternoon.

After they helped all day at the B&B in Drake, the next day they went to Glen Haven, another little town up here and helped clean up debris there.

All their pictures taken during those three days are at this link: Hastings College Fall Break Trip 2013 Some great pictures.

I obtained the names of all the participants, 20 of them, and wrote each of them a thank you note, as well as the church that sponsored them. I also sent emails and handwritten notes to various government people - the utility workers, the firemen who rescued me, and the building inspector from out of town who came just days after the flood to do a preliminary inspection of all the structures to identify the amount of damage.

I hope by this time next year a lot of loosed ends will be tied up.

No good deed goes unrewarded or is it unpunished?

It's unpunished.

A lot of my friends here assumed I cooked a bunch of food for that group when they were here, but it was not possible at that time. I hope I get a chance to make up for it next summer.

I am sure your thanks were appreciated. So many times people don't bother
and it seems these good deeds aren't valued.

I wish I could remember the names of all those students in case they show up next summer I can greet them by name, but it's one of those deals where if they change clothes, I won't remember them. I will be doing good if I can remember the adults' names.
