Deck Chairs and Cats

I'm sure you've heard that expression 'like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.'

I found this:

"A joke Stephen Colbert made on the 2006 White House Correspondents' Dinner:

'Some people say changing the cabinet around is like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. That's not true; this administration isn't sinking. In fact, this administration is soaring; if anything, it's like rearranging the deck chairs on the Hindenburg.'

Over in Las Vegas, there is a new city ordinance that the panhandlers on the Strip can't have their pets out there with them except between 5 am and noon. They use these animals to get sympathy. This cat is Cheddar, and its owners say they make about $200 a day with his help.

I've never seen a cat sit like that. But I'll bet he'd rather be somewhere shady and quiet.

That is an adorable cat. I never saw one sit like that either.

I thought it was interesting that Cheddar doesn't have a white or lighter tummy like so many tabbies do. Of course I'm looking hard at all the cat pictures I come across, trying to decide what color I would like to have next, but I'm sure it will come down to the spur of the moment - the new cat(s) will pick us.

I love this cat. I don't know about the rest of it.

The article talked about how the cat is trained to let them know when it needs the facilities, and they lead it over to a storm drain to do its business. That woman is scary looking.

Panhandlers are in the same class as priests and preachers. Pass the plate! LOL

Seems like a bad deal for the poor cat....

Poor cat! Also, I shudder to think of parents who would buy a baby shirt that said "Pimp" on it.

Here in Fort Lauderdale they have just outlawed panhandlers!!!!

There must be a lot of street people down there where the weather is nice year-round.

Interesting reading there.Panhandlers

It has gotten out of hand. The sidewalks are crowded as it is, and within the last year or so they started bringing animals. It's hard to walk past a dejected dog or cat sitting out in the hot sun. (Sometimes the animals are drugged to make them sit still.)

that seems odd. If they are panhandlers isn't there a good chance they don't have a place to leave their pets?
comment by kristilyn3 on May 14, 2012 2:22 PM ()
The pets stay with 'friends' who have a place to keep them. Often, the panhandlers rent the pets for the day. There was a dog fight on one of the pedestrian overpasses between dogs being delivered by a keeper (you can imagine how the tourists hated that), and that precipitated this new ordinance.
