Cowboy Hall of Fame

It's been about a month since I visited Jeri in Oklahoma City and they took me to see the Cowboy Hall of Fame.

One of my favorite exhibits was the barbed wire collection. They've figured out a good way to exhibit it, all classified by number of strands and barbs.

This is about half of it:

In the same room they had a few branding irons.

Curious to know if there was a chuck wagon exhibit with recipes....

Love that idea, Laura!

Wouldn't it be fun to have one of those chuck wagons parked in the back yard next to the charcoal grill and have all those little drawers and such to keep whatevers in? And I could crawl up in the wagon itself for a quiet read on a summer day.

You mentioning the range wars reminds me of a terrific movie: "Open Range" with Kevin Costner, Robert Duval, & Annette Benning. The big gun fight at the end is wonderfully staged and quite realistic.

I'll see if I can track it down. Thanks for the heads up.

There is a great deal more than hardware. It has a good fine arts selection
too but that was closed when Laura visited and only cowboy stuff was on
offer.

What we saw was really good. I recently learned about Edgar Payne's western paintings, and now I wonder if he has any there in that gallery.

we went there last year with them.Did you get to see most of it?

One part was closed off, but just when I thought we'd seen it all, we stumbled across the Frontier Town.

Was surprised my self when i saw how many types of barbed wire there isThere is a outback stockmans museum in Longreach queensland has a lot of pioneering history there.

People collect barbed wire, and I was never that interested in it, but after seeing a real collection, I can see why it'd be fun.

I know you are interested in hardware so I know you enjoyed yourself.

They even have a bull riding ring set up, but there are more paintings than hardware.

Maybe there is a clue to solving the immigration problem here...

I kept thinking about the range wars where the barbed wire fence was the cowboy's enemy (Don't Fence Me In), but of course today, it's part of their daily life.

That isn't what I would be looking for!!!!

There were no cute-ass cowboys wandering around squinting at the art work, but that would have been a good idea - maybe one of those live statues that we could sit on a bench and enjoy the view from all angles. Airports out here in the west during rodeo season - that's when they're out and about.

Interesting - a cowboy museum! We have lots of civil war stuff around here, but no cowboy stuff that I am aware of. Someday I will travel the states!

We don't have all those Civil War re-enactments like back East, but make up for it with horse and cattle drives. And mountain man rendezvous. And the Renaissance Festival, which doesn't really apply to our region, but is very popular.
