"Las Vegas crime scene investigators outside the scene of a double murder and attempted suicide."

I think the man on the cell phone with his back to us is our neighbor Dean. Look at that guy to the right - looks like Gil Grissom.

My cousins in SW Colorado have a large garden, and look at their creative scarecrows:

Here is one of their iris blooms:

That iris is beautiful -- Barossa valley wine area near here has a scarecrow competition every year for the residents- well worth a look on your pc

Sounds like a fun contest, kind of like Halloween, but less personal.

The Iris is beautiful. I will try to get us more colors.

My grandmother had some special ones, and I see that they are still available, so might buy some next year, if I can keep the ones you gave me going.

As I wrote recently, we have had three suicides, and a murder suicide a few years ago on our island. It is very saddening that anyone thinks this is a solution. The photos are great.

I think murder-suicide is the worst. The suicidal person has made their choice, but they have no right to make it for someone else.

Are crows really that stupid??

Here's a cute little New Yorker piece about it: https://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/stevecoll/2009/08/do-scarecrows-work.html

I can't speak for the crows around Durango, CO, but up here they aren't interested in my garden. Raccoons on the other hand...

Ever watch dogs (and maybe other animals) react to human shapes with odd features? Benny is smart enough to know something is wrong and he lets everybody else know too.

Gives a whole new meaning to 'pothead.'

Too bad we can't have irises down here!

Murder suicide is very common down here--too common--older sick couples go that way
comment by greatmartin on June 2, 2013 10:13 AM ()
A couple of years ago in Las Vegas there were several murder-suicides of older couples who didn't have the means to live, but they have decreased, and the most recent ones have been middle-aged couples and their children. This particular one was a 38 year-old guy killing his girlfriend and her child - and then he failed at his attempt to kill himself.

That flower is super pretty!!! And yikes about the crime scene.

The iris is one of my favorite flowers, and most of them only bloom for a short time in the spring.
