Where the Great Plains meet the Colorado Rocky Mountains is called the Front Range. This is Longs Peak on the right (in shadow) and Mount Meeker on the left. I grew up north of where this picture was taken but had a similar view across farm fields to the beautiful soaring peaks that turned pink when the sun rose in the morning and were silhouetted by sunsets at the end of the day.
Now we live in what is called The Foothills (as opposed to The High Mountains). The other areas of the state are The Eastern Plains and Grand Mesa (on the western border). These distinctions matter when looking at weather forecasts.
