Cloudy Daze

Cloudy Daze is the name of some yarn I bought today. It is what they call 'self striping' yarn because it is multi-colored and knits up in stripes. This particular yarn goes a step beyond and the stripes have patterns within them. Usually this effect is achieved using different yarn colors, referred to as Fair Isle, so there is more skill required.

This is how it knits up:

I'm excited about getting started on this project so I can see the design unfold before my eyes.

The other day the fox was here, and for some reason kept checking the skies. Something he didn't like, and it wasn't airplanes. Might have been the ravens. He and the blue jays ignore each other.

My husband had to shoot a fox the other day. Shame. Such a pretty creature. Just not so pretty when it is running towards one's face with teeth bared in an emotion my husband knows not what. He wasn't prepared to wait to find out. I highly doubt he was going to be in for a good licking tho.

They can carry rabies, so if a fox acted aggressive or otherwise too friendly, I'd shoot it, too. One advantage: once it was dead, you could touch the fur to see how soft it is; I would have loved to do that but my fox and I had this agreement about how close we can get to each other, and neither one of us ever dropped our guard.

The only sweater I knit had a multi colored yarn that gave it waves of dark and light and made my knitting look brilliant. The fox looks pretty healthy and heavier than in earlier pix. If you ever do get close, give him a kiss from me.

Those are the best kind of knitting projects, where the yarn does the pattern work for you. The fox has his winter coat now, so he looks fatter, kind of like a lap dog that's had too many treats.

My mother has made my girls several sweaters with that kind of yarn and it is beautiful. We get all kinds of wildlife here...you're a braver gal than I.

I can't wait to get to it and see for myself. You know how it is living in the country, you find yourself accomplishing things you'd never expect to have to do, much less succeed.

That fox is beautiful. So is the new yarn.

He's on his own now. Friends are going to drop by the house and toss a few dog biscuits out in case he comes by.

That pattern that the yarn creates when you knit it is really interesting and pretty! Of course, your friendly fox is cute too!

I'm always telling myself that I don't need to stock up on yarn, just use up what I have on hand before buying more, but when I saw this particular yarn, I just had to buy it.

I cannot knit-anything apart from holes...my mum and gran tried to teach me, but to no avail. Wish I could though
My mum had a pet fox when she was a teenager called Uffa, that is a great shot of it, do wel

This fox adopted us, and we never did name it, although I was thinking of calling him Mr. Busy for the way he'd gather up food to bury around the yard, and then gallop back to where I was for more handouts. The expectant look on his face was really something.

You make me wish that I was good with my hands.

You're good with a glue gun and great in the kitchen. Plus, you can paint.

The fox favors my little Annie a bit, except she is very "plump" and has short legs. But the nose looks a lot like her.

He's looking more like a house dog these days with his fur coat. I only heard him bark a couple of times, but it's kind of an eerie sound, so that's okay with me.

OMG is he cute!

I like this shot of him in the shadow of the house looking worried.

I love that faux fair isle. What are you going to knit with it?
You didn't really get that close to the fox, did you?
comment by nittineedles on Oct 21, 2010 10:27 PM ()
Telephoto lens. Our agreement seems to be that 5 feet is as close as either one of us gets to the other.

I think the optimum width is about 10 inches to get the design, so want to make a solid brown sweater with what looks like set-in front panels of Fair Isle, if I don't decide it looks dorky.

Awesome shot of the fox!
The new kinds of yarn are really cool — what fun they must be to work with.

It's very inspiring to work with the different yarns available today, each one is a new adventure.
