April Flowers

I wish we were having April showers to bring the May flowers, but we're not. Here are some of the flowers from around here:

Cherry bushes along the riverbank. It's a good year for them, there are many more blossoms than in previous years.

When flowers are sparse and rare, the sight of them is all the more delightful.

I saw an odd patch of white among the bushes up the side stream, and it turned out to be a different kind of flowering fruit tree in heavy bloom. It's only visible from certain angles.

The cherry blossoms are especially lovely. We have had wonderful rains through the winter and spring here in Texas; boy, did we need them after our summer from hell last year.

I have been wondering how the drought is going down there. I think the jet stream moved south, and we are in for a horribly dry summer here.

our Maple tree are blooming slowly.

It's been so warm and dry, I can't remember what to expect for this time of year with regard to what should be blooming. It will be an interesting summer, is all I can say.

I'm thinking about planting some spring bulbs if I can figure out what the burrowing rodents won't eat.

The spring flowers are really beautiful. What is that delicate blue and
white flower called? Do you get wild cherries?
comment by elderjane on Apr 24, 2012 5:56 AM ()
It's a pasque flower, and we do get edible cherries, but they are too small to cook with so I stand out there and eat a couple per summer.

How pretty! We used to have an ornamental plum tree in the back yard that was absolutely breath taking in the Spring.

That's why we no longer have the tree. It made an awful mess when the fruit dropped and attracted the raccoons and bears.

Those ornamentals are so pretty, as long as the fruit dropping off later isn't a problem.

Any cold or snow your way? I warned a few people that winter would be back again and they laughed at me!

None at all - there was a rain storm the other night that passed us by, and I felt robbed. It is irritating that the east coast had a big storm - that should have been MY storm.

It's sparse here, these two are all there is, not as if there is a lush field of daffodils lurking just out of the picture.
