I have never really been someone who has been keen on the whole idea of New Year's resolutions. It is not that I don't think that it is a great idea to consider setting goals for improvement, but I think we often aim a bit too high the goals we set for our resolutions. As a result, I think we are really setting our selves up for failure when we don't achieve success fairly quickly.
A few years ago, I lost almost 70 lbs, dropping from just under 230 lbs to 164. I actually stayed at about 160 lbs for about 2 and a half years. That was actually pretty good for me since I have always struggled with my weight. Unfortunately, over about a year after that, I slowly put weight back on. On the bright side, it is not that I put it all back on.
I did set a goal from this year ... I am hoping to lose my age in weight by the time summer gets in. That should be a reasonable goal. Hopefully, that will work out.
One of the things that should help is that I have restarted doing my weight training/toning again. I ended up dropping that because my current job means going into work a bit earlier, cutting out about 1/3 of my bike ride every morning on work days and all of my toning regiment. That would have been tough enough, but I also dropped the toning totally. I wasn't even doing it on my days off. I did keep going with my full bike ride (30 miles) on my days off.
I kicked in the routine on Saturday, and it is going pretty well, though, my shoulders and upper abs are definitely not feeling so great, but it is not serious pain. Just the ache you get when the muscles are rebelling from having had to work for the first time in a long time.
I did this once before ... and I know I will do it again! I just have to keep the focus.
