Other Worlds & Accident Prone

I know, I know ... I have been pretty bad about staying on top of my blogging. The good news is that it is not really for a bad reason. One of the reasons is quite a good one. I am not sure that I have ever talked about it, but I used to play online Star Trek roleplaying games that are done in an email format. Basically, they work by having the players create characters that serve together on a vessel and have adventures not unlike those that took place on the various series in the franchise. I have gotten back into that, playing in two different games. Both are set years after the 24th Century TNG/DS9/VOY timeline when Starfleet has gone corrupt. Many of the citizens of the Federation have settled into the Borderlands and found a new organization for research ... the DFA. The other ship is set in the same time period, but it is aboard a Romulan vessel.

This is a fun activity for me since it allows me to get some writing in, and I have always liked doing that. It does take a little bit of time each evening while I am watching television, though.

The other challenge this past week is tied to my clumsiness. It has led to two sets of (very minor) injuries. The first took place last Thursday evening. One of the things I love to do is play with the two dogs. That includes playing fetch with their toys and running around the house. As part of it, I made a dash up their doggie steps to our bed. I also was not paying attention to the fact that the fan over the bed was actually on. I have done this before without any trouble, but this time I got whacked a few times by the blades of the fan.

It gave Ray a bit of a scare. Aparently, we hadn't dusted the blades recently, and he saw some dust flying off. He thought it was some of my hair. Fortunately, that was not the case, and there was no serious injury. I just ended up with a small bump on the side of my head. It wasn't fun, but definitely survivable.

The other injury is even funnier! My library got a $32,000 grant to pay for recarpeting our Children's Room. As part of that, we have all been buckling down to help the children's staff prep the space so the carpeters can do their work. While we have had to shut the room, we have moved some of the collection out of the Children's Room so people can check things out. One of those things were a set of spinners we keep the kids DVDs on. We were having trouble moving them until I thought I could just get down and push the base while on my knees. it worked pretty well, but it led to two really nasty blisters on my knees. To make matters worse, I actually broke the blisters at the same time. They seem to be healing OK, but they sting quite a bit. I know they will heal, though.

On the bright side, I have made it almost a whole week without injuring myself in some bizarre way!

I thought I was the clumsy one!...glad you're ok.
The roleplaying game sounds like a blast to play. I know a guy who does something similar but with a Star Wars theme. That's interesting its done through an email format.

I have been doing this type of gaming since I was in college in the late 1990s. Technology has come a long way! Email gaming was considered pretty cutting edge then.

ok the ceiling fan injury is kind of funny, knowing you didn't get seriously hurt. I can picture that in my mind.

something that always amazes me when using a hammer , something tells you that you are about to hit your finger when driving in a nail----too late you go ahead and do it . Ouchhhhhh

That sums up the situation perfectly!

The dust flying off the blades and Ray thinking it was your hair made me laugh. You sound better. Are you?

Laughter seems to be the response from many, including myself. It is actually quite a funny situation. I am defnitely feeling better.

Oh PUHLEEZE---Ray was worried you broke the fan!!!
WARNING: The older you get the clumsier you get!!!!

Just watched the New Normal--it's getting away from the gay slapstick and seems funnier--John Stamos has no fear!!!

The show has definitely been evolving allowing the characters to develop so that the humor has more depth. I really have been enjoying it quite a bit. There are even some touching moments now.

I could be in serious trouble. I have always clumsy! I don't know if I will survive it getting worse.
