Fighting a Cold

image

This picture seems quite appropriate for how I have been feeling all week. I feel bad complaining because RI is dealing with quite the bad bout of the flu and bronchitis. While I haven't been feeling great, it is not as bad as that.

For the most part, I have just been feeling pretty tired. I come home from work, do dinner with Ray, and find myself falling asleep on the couch each night. Today, I had a day off, and I spent most of the day sleeping. On the bright side, I haven't really had too many other symptoms of being sick other than that and a little bit of achiness.

Work has been pretty hectic. Illness has left us a bit short-handed. On top of the fact that we are still down our head of reference services and another person in that department is on vacation, I have been putting in a lot of time on the Reference Desk. That has actually been a good thing (well, not so much the illnesses or being shorthanded) because I enjoy working with the public, which I don't get to do nearly as much as I used to.

We have actually hired a head of reference services, but we are just waiting for the person to work through her period of notice for her previous library. I am really looking forward to having her as a member of our team.

My girlfriend had the flu and while she had other symptoms, her dominant symptom was fatigue.

Ooh! Maybe I do have the flu, then!

I hope you're feeling a little better today. So many people are sick it seems - either with cold or that stomach flu that's going around. Get plenty of rest!

I am feeling better today, thankfully. I am really hoping to avoid the major illnesses that seem to be all over the place.

Are you sure it is a cold and not the flu which is in epidemic portions in the North?
"because I enjoy working with the public"--that is the main reason I wouldn't take a manager's job and preferred being a server!

You are so right about the flu up here. I don't think that it is the flu ... at least, I am fighting it off if it is because I am not developing any other symptoms other than the weariness and mild achiness.

My daily intake of vitamin C is now up to 5,000 units.

be careful AJ, letting yourself get run down will surely make you more susceptible to catching the flu. I think that day of sleep is just what you needed. take care my friend.

Thanks! I did get my flu shot, and while that is not perfect, they are saying that it is a pretty good match for the strain that is striking in our area. I started getting it every year after Ray's heart attack in 2005.

I saw where taking echinacea can shorten the course of a cold. Also, drink plenty of fluids and chicken soup. Hope it goes quickly for you, doesn't get worse before it gets better.

I have definitey been doing the chicken soup thing. Ray made a big pot of it for me. I have also been trying to do oranges for breakfast and a snack in the afternoon. I am feeling a little better so hopefully the end is near.
