My Weekend Off

I have already been a little remiss in getting back into the routine of posting. Mostly, it was because I wasn't really sure what I wanted to talk about. For the most part, it has been a quiet few days. I actually had a four-day weekend, which is a big rarity for me. In Rhode Island, we celebrate Victory Day, which many other states used to celebrate as Victory Over Japan Day after the conclusion of World War II. Today's issue of The Providence Journal had an interesting story about what was involved and how we are now the only state that still recognizes the holiday.

I made the most of my time off. It helped that I was able to finish up with all of my errands done by Saturday at lunch time so I was able to relax at home for most of the rest of the time. While I had to do a few things like laundry, it wasn't so bad. I was actually able to finish up 5 books this weekend! It was so nice to get back into the reading routine once again.

I got a chance to talk to my godparents, who are up from Florida visiting, and I am happy to say that we made arrangements to get together on Friday for lunch. After that, Ray and I are going to drive up to the library I am going to be working at so he can check it out, and I can work on completing some of my peronnel paperwork. If you are interested in learning more about the library, check out this page relating to the history of the site, which was once a monastary.

Only 14 days left until my first day at the new job.

Wow! I went to the link and read the history. Are there any photos of its current use as a library?

One of the things that I love about the building is that the older parts have been remodeled in a way to maintain a lot of the amazingly beautiful architectural details. There is gorgeous scrollwork on a lot of the ceilings and walls, and there is no shortage of stained glass.

Nothing new to share. Though, one of my friends said that since they let gays into the miliatary, it was time to let them into the monastery. I told her they had been there for centuries.

I enjoyed reading about the history and the photos. I guess we should have known that you are a speed reader.

I am glad you liked it! There are rumors that the monastery is haunted. I am intrigued by that!
