It has been a pretty interesting day at work. You are probably wondering why I am writing a blog entry while I am at work, but I am pretty much done with everything other than covering the Reference Desk, and we are a little slow today. Everything has been packed away and either brought home or sent through the library delivery service to my new library. I have gotten everything ready for the wonderful librarian who will be taking over my duties. So, I have little left to do ... so why not do a blog entry.
It has been a really touching day. I have been getting tons of hugs from various patrons as they wish me well for the future. There are so many people here (both coworkers and libary patrons), who I will miss terribly. I have worked here 13 1/2 years, and in that time, I have had an opportunity to meet so many wonderful people. Many of them have become very good friends, and my coworkers are definitely family.
The director and assistant director took me out for lunch. It was really nice. It was part exit interview and part talking. They gave me some great advice to use as I shift into being an administrator. In all fairness, I owe the two of them and so many of the people I work with so much for the librarian I have become. They have been wonderful members and friends, and as I mentioned before family.
In about 30 minutes, I am going to get to go to one of our programming rooms. They are hosting a going away party for people to come and wish me well. This includes the public and some of our peers from other libraries. I think is is so nice of them to do something like that since it is not like I am retiring.
I just keep telling myself, I will still be able to come in once Sundays start up again. I have opted to still do an overtime shift here so I can stay in touch with people for a while.
The new job starts on Monday.
