Venus Crossing the Sun Photos

Today is the day.

You can watch Venus crossing the sun live on:

Astronomy Picture of the Day June 5, 2012

Here's the beginning:

"This transit is the rarest type of solar eclipse known -- much more rare than an eclipse of the Sun by the Moon or even by the planet Mercury. In fact, the next transit of Venus across the Sun will be in 2117.

Anyone with a clear view of the Sun can go outside and carefully view the transit for themselves by projecting sunlight through a hole in a card onto a wall. Because this Venus transit is so unusual and visible from so much of the Earth, it is expected to be one of the more photographed celestial events in history.

The above live image on the Sun is being taken by the Earth-orbiting Solar Dynamics Observatory and can be updated about every 15 minutes."

Comments:

Though our water levels are still on the low side we have been getting some heavy downpours the last couple of weeks--it's expected as June started the 'rainy' season.

We are hoping for the usual monsoon season to show up early here - rain every afternoon. Hope, hope, hope.

If I am reincarnated, I pray it will be as a cat who belongs to Laura or
Marg or Teal. I promise not to bite or scratch.

You would probably be like that China Cat - when she was playful. I hope you realize I went clear to your house because you told me that cat made you pull it around on a throw rug every day, and I wanted to see that. Fortunately, you and I had plenty to talk about to fill the time between rare cat sightings.

Too cloudy here and I won't be around for the next one.

We didn't have a hope of seeing it directly here, either, but watched it on the Internet. I'm going to post some of the subsequent pictures.

We aren't going to see it here--too cloudy and rainy!!!

We all didn't need to be out there straining our eyes in the hot sun, or getting wet from the rain. (You have rain! We haven't had rain in several weeks.)

tonight here if it clear called the Strawberry Moon?

Strawberries getting ripe - time to make some shortcake. The full moon is so bright here, it's light daylight outside at midnight.

Better take your chance now. The next one is in 2117. I probably won't be around for that one. Will you?

Nooo, I don't think so. Unless we are reincarnated a couple of times.
