Fish starts fire
From the Wildfire Today site, Posted on June 14, 2013 by Bill Gabbert

Fire investigators and workers at the Grand Electric Company in Bison, South Dakota concluded that one or more fish started the Shadehill fire that began at the base of a power pole in the Fall of 2012. Well, indirectly anyway. After examining the remains of broiled fish lying across a transformer bushing, an arrestor, and other hardware on the pole, the best theory they could come up with was that a bird, a raptor, carried the fish to the pole and dropped one of them which started a phase to phase ground.

To prevent such fires, grills for birds should be provided. And picnic tables.

Hey the bird just wanted to do some outdoor grilling--he doesn't like raw fish--what's wrong with that?

What's wrong with it? Maybe that wildfires are dangerous and can get out of hand.

Sounds like some kind of travel directive: from Raptor to Bushing, then turn left...

We could all use some direction in life. If we have a mysterious fire around here, I say cherchez la Bucky the Beaver.

I suspect that the cause of my garage fire a few years back was just as bizarre. The cause was never determined.

There was a garage fire in Las Vegas and the theory was that in the course of nailing up paneling, the tip of a nail slightly punctured the insulation on an electrical wire, eventually leading to a short that could cause the fire. I'd send that in to Mythbusters but can't find the news item about it.

This is truly remarkable....a clumsy bird????

Butterfingers the Bird. We haven't seen the osprey this year, but he'll probably come around and carry off some of our fish.

They shouldn't be blaming the poor fish. It was the clutsy raptor that dropped it in the first place.

It could happen there in Port Alberni - all those fish and birds catching them.
