When I got back from my late afternoon bike ride a day ago, I saw a large van behind our SUV in our driveway. The license plates read “Ontario”. Crimanentlies, I thought, who do we know from Ontario?

I located Ed with a couple, chatting on the pool deck. The four of us sat around talking for several hours, then we ordered Chinese, then we exchanged E mails and said goodnight around 9.

All this, because Steve, the guy, thought it would be nice to know who lived in our house, that he had admired from the water, so he walked up, knocked on our door, and introduced himself. And his wife/girlfriend, had been more cautious and he had said, “All they can do is close the door on me.” But the curmudgeon didn’t do that and I am happy he invited them in.

They’ll be back, they said, in December, just after Christmas. They have a house at the other end of the island that I often bike past and have liked because it is in an isolated spot, with a lovely view, on a corner lot.

So now we know people from Ontario. Aces!
