Betty White was host on Saturday Night Live last Saturday. I missed the program but saw clips on several news programs, and she is really funny.
At one point, she said she didn’t want to connect with old friends on Facebook, because the way she does that currently is with a Ouija board. I know that feeling. I read later that she was a live wire at the taping, that she stuck around for the after party and didn’t leave until 2 a.m. Whew, what a gal.
Speaking of “that feelingâ€, I phoned my friend Penny yesterday on a hunch – suddenly I had to know how she was. I learned that a week ago she had a small stroke, is now on several different meds, is slowed down, but she expects to recover fully. I hope so.
I am worried about her because she is flat broke and makes whatever money she gets, outside of SS, by pet and house sitting. I have wanted her to come down and visit but her finances and family obligations (that are nonexistent except for her paranoia) always keep her from coming.
On other matters, I just E mailed Harper-Collins, the latter day version of Harper & Row (where I worked in the 70s) that I was dismayed that they were in such desperate trouble that they had to publish Sarah Palin. They are now owned by Rupert Murdoch, a far cry from the days of integrity I remember.
Palin has a new book they will publish in November. It’s called “Something Excellent†(sic) so it will probably be a really thin book. The hype says it’s all about the things she likes, books, songs, what she thinks (do you hear an echo?) I let myself say, in this E mail, that although I was not religious, that I spent part of each day praying that Sarah would meet a wolf who would make dinner out of her. All together now, let us pray …
