A phone rep for a med alert system has been talking to Ed about our getting such equipment. She called today and I gave her Edward’s cell no. and she said she wouldn’t bother him now but would call later in the day and after she had lunch. Since the time was 2:31, I scolded her for waiting this long because letting your blood sugar drop is not a good thing, and she said, yeah, I know, “Mom”, I’ll do better, and my heart gave a little leap because it was so sweet of her to do that and we all know I chose to dance, dance, dance, instead of having kids and a big factor was that Jay, phenomenal as he was in every way, was mired in his work, and might well not have “been there” and I didn’t want to do this alone. So when anyone calls me Mom, I get a taste of what it might have been like to have a loving child.

There are two women in my life now who see me as a surrogate mother and I feel singularly blessed.
