Political Immorality

Joe Scarborough on MSNBC morning show was interviewing Rep. Marsha Blackburn, Republican of Tennessee, asking her if she thought the public option would succeed in the forthcoming legislation. She said, no and waxed forth on everything that was wrong with Obama’s plan. I don’t know why he would ask the fox what he thought of the hen, or is it in the interest of giving the fox a voice?

These last eight years have exposed the current Republican party as blatantly and openly self-serving to the extent of pure evil. Moral corruption has reached new levels.
Ed, who WAS a Republican says that the Republican Party is rapidly becoming non-relevant. How sad, because we do need a viable and intelligent alternative. They are also taking a great risk – they opposed social security and medicare. They did not succeed. And most of their parents are getting the benefits.

The backlash for opposing health care reform will marginalize the party still further. Those who speak out at town hall meetings are already at the extreme edge of the Repubican party, the far out, the uneducated, those who are easily led because of a preconceived attitude and want to believe the worst of a black president.

This country has reinvented itself several times, coming through some horrendous decisions and surviving. Franklin Roosevelt, a president I admired greatly for getting us through WWII, made a disastrous and immoral decision when he interred Japanese AMERICANS in camps as a security risk. We were also at war with Germany and Italy, but these citizens were exempt because their ethnicity wasn’t obvious. They just blended in better (!!??) I’m surprised other Asians weren’t caught up in this madness as well. Can you imagine how you would feel as a native born American with immigrant parents, suddenly put into prison communities because your parents’ FORMER country was at war with the U.S.? These citizens lost their homes, their possessions, the fabric of their American lives. All for looking different.

I think what is going on now is as morally threatening as Roosevelt’s decision to disenfranchise an entire population. (At least he didn’t line them up and have them shot.) The current plan of Attorney General Holder to pursue an investigation into sanctioned torture puts Obama into a very difficult position. It will tear at the fabric of our government and big heads may roll and he will be accused of playing politics.

Scarborough thought Obama should have leaned on the AG to wait until January and the health care fight was over, saying that it was too much for the president to have to deal with both issues at the same time. That makes sense, but it’s not going to happen now that the AG has gone forward.

The truth is that highly placed people have committed state crimes. Most of them belong in prison, including the top banana. If I were George senior, I’d shoot myself. The Bush family surpassed the younger Jeb, the only one with a few brain cells, to give the older, stupider Bush (the Fredo Corleone of the Bush family) a shot at being something other than a total loser. They used their influence and elected this excuse for a leader. With W. Bush in the White House, this country doesn’t need enemies. We’ll elect our own thank you. May the Bushes all rot in Hell, starting with Barbara, the Goody Two-shoes of all former first ladies, and the power behind the throne.
