Excruciatingly Dull Day – You Get to Know About

Except, of course, for Obama winning the Nobel Prize. We listened to the news and it was full of Republicans and Right-wing naysayers trashing the whole event. I knew they’d be whining and sniveling because, whatever else follows this, he has still been internationally honored and I am sure that eats at their guts.

I also watched out for the moon thing but saw nothing in the sky and there were no photos on TV. I thought of Jay, who was always intensely interested in space science, and wondered if he was observing any of this from anywhere.

My exercise routine has been badly impacted by my unreliable back. The massage therapist has done well by me but I have spaced the sessions to every two weeks because of cost and because I had improved. Since I feel better, I am sitting more at the computer and at the piano and these positions are bad and my back starts up again.

I walked halfway down my route this morning and detoured into Nadine’s entryway, which is large and shaded, as the pain had begun to escalate. I lay down on the flagstone at one side of her house for about 15 minutes and then I continued, but the pain came back. So I skipped my park exercises and came home. On the way I was fantasizing about food and normally I come home to a bowl of cereal but this morning I wanted a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich. First I lay down for half an hour to ease my back. While I was laying down I was dreaming about the BLT. And I got up because I just had to make it. The bacon was marginal. I had to unfreeze it and it had, after a year, gotten a bit stale. I should shrink-wrap things but I am too lazy. I rarely indulge in bacon at home and Ed, who thinks he doesn’t eat pork, won’t eat bacon. He will eat breakfast sausage at restaurants, he will eat Chinese pork ribs, he will eat the remainder of my pork fried rice and he always buys “Cuban” sandwiches at the Publix deli counter, which have slices of pork in them, but he doesn’t eat pork. So the bacon gets old.

After Ed left for his volunteer afternoon at the Chamber of Commerce (Nice to see you, go home, don’t move here. There’s nothing doing. This isn’t Paris) I lay down again with my meditation tape (it increases left-right brain connections) and when I got up I played Free Cell and the day has been a total wash-out. I can’t wait to get my next massage next Wednesday.

Later I heard in an E mail from Nadine that they hadn’t been home. Her husband, Mickey, had his pacemaker replaced early this morning. He had driven himself to the hospital with Nadine as a passenger. When they were ready to come home, a couple who are friends of theirs drove out to pick them up and they drove the cars because Nadine’s lag is in a cast.

Nadine is my go-to person for mental stimulation. Also she is really good with computers and helped me with my ipod and I remember wistfully how sharp I was about techie things years ago. What happened?
