Controlling others in the name of faith is the greatest evil of humanity. HSL (that's me)
On Sunday we had late afternoon coffee and sweets at Toni’s house. She is a good friend of Nadine, and is a member of our lunch group. Very nice house, nice area. Stan, the art teacher was there along with his son. We left first as we were picking up our arriving guest, Joanie, from New York.
Ed and I sat in the cell phone lot at the airport. She was to call when she was ready for pick up at the baggage claim level. Time passed and no call. I persuaded Ed to take me to the terminal (I needed the ladies’ room) and I would check on things and call him back at the waiting area. The weather up north was iffy (and working its way down here) and the board showed her original flight as canceled. No other NY arrival was showing. I got concerned, imagining her stranded at JFK. Original arrival time was 6:44. I learned from a clerk that a replacement flight was coming in near 8, but it never showed on the board. She was on it, and all turned out well. We got home around 9:30.
Meanwhile, I lost an earring, a favorite. I’ll check the car later today, but I fear I have finally lost it. An earring from this set has been lost a half dozen times and I have always managed to find it. (One time, three days later in my sister’s driveway where a car had run over it – I was able to have it repaired.)
Joanie will be here a week. A message was waiting from Lila and Terry, other NY friends. They’d like to stay the night next Sunday. Sure, why not. Joanie is leaving that day, and I love seeing them. Then Christmas week we have Dennis and Henne, good friends of Ed’s, who are flying in from Baltimore. They’ll be here about three days.
After that, we are on our own again till next year, unless I can persuade Penny and/or Inese (Inez) to come down, but they are chronically unable to, Penny because of finances and Inese, because being a guest at a private home spooks her. Something to do with “loss of controlâ€. That’s my assessment anyway, also based on other observations. I know, why do I bother – because, as Mark Twain said (paraphrasing), “It’s hard to make old friends at once.â€
I finally saw the nurse practitioner on Monday. She allowed me to persuade her that my hormone medication (synthroid) although appearing to be the right dose might not be. I may be what is called an “outlierâ€, meaning the cookie cutter range of dose may not be helping me. She referred me to an endocrinologist and I will see him on Jan. 6th. I can do things but must sleep at least twice a day after exertion. Foo.

Good news about the endocrinologist visit. I too take Synthroid, and fall into that same outlier range. I have been on Synthroid for 20 years and old Armour thyroid for 30 years before that; hypothyroidism struck me at age 13. Now my doctor knows to tweak my dose based on my symptoms, not just blood work. Good luck. Enjoy the naps for now.
