Recaulking the Tub

Well friends, I have been unable to hire anyone to recaulk my bathtub, so finally realized if it got done, little ole me was gonna have to do it. I have a chair I sit on in the tub to take a shower. I sat down, took a knife and peeled and pared and scraped till I got all the old curled up peeling caulk off.
I had bought some caulk that's NOT silicone based--that stuff quickly peels and buckles up. The caulk I purchased is more like grout--it dries quickly and lasts--Lasts is the operative word here. Then leaning over, took my index finger and schmeared the sealant everywhere it should be.
Of course it looks like King Kong did it--I tried to wipe off the excess, but the job I did isn't something I'd want to show off to anybody. I had a time cleaning all the scraped mess out of the tub, and got it on the bathroom floor as well, but it's done. Hope it lasts a while!  Hint: I got it on my hand and didn't think I'd be able to get if off, but I sprayed my hand with PAM, then scrubbed with soap and water got most of it off.       Susil

Hooray for you! I have to do so many chores myself due to extreme poverty that I have learned to live with the homegrown jobs.

If it weren't for doing so many things for my manipulating sister, I would have been down in a flash to help you out. Anyway, hooray for you!

Dear Su, you worked hard and got it done. I'm proud of you.
Trya razor blade on the spills. I am going to work on a project
while Ed is away next week. More on this later ... xx, T.

Caulking is an art...the key is the cut you make at the tip...however, the most important part is getting all the old stuff off...any tube and tile caulk works good...

You got it done, and I for one think that's great.

I wonder if you'd sprayed your finger with Pam ahead of time if that would have made any difference in the appearance? I've tried it and realized that I'm not good at it. I'm no good at plaster or drywall repairs either. No matter how careful I am, it looks like the wall has cellulite!
