So, today found out what everybody else who lives on the five mile long road where I live already knew--the spooky Texas Chainsaw Massacre guy I saw yesterday is a meth addict. I should have realized that by looking at him. The complete abandon of personal hygiene, the dental mess, the fried brain=druggie far gone in his addiction.
I asked two neighbors if they'd seen this guy around, and they seemed surprised I didn't know this goof and some of his other druggie pals ride up and down the road on their 4 wheelers all night every night--an unsettling thought. Probably looking for things to steal, since they're wired on meth, why not get out and see what they can find. Yikes.
Changing the subject, let me tell you what happened at Physical Therapy today. I was getting ultrasound on the muscles in my shoulder and heard a client in the next cubicle saying she had started back on the Atkins diet. I said to the therapist "That's a fad, and a dangerous one."
Now this woman and I couldn't see each other, but she heard me and adamantly defended the Atkins diet. Lady, let me apprise you of something. You have to have blood drawn for liver function studies on a regular basis on the Atkins diet. Why? Because a diet high in protein and fats is very stressful on the liver, pancreas, gallbladder and kidneys.
Digesting, metabolizing and excreting the by products of all that protein and fat ain't good for ya. How do I know? My best friend was on Atkins for six months and has permanent liver damage. It's not the answer for long term food intake management. That I know for sure. Susil
