Interesting Names

These were obits in yesterday's paper for:

Ms. Carrion

Ms. See Bell Ruffin

Two funeral notices at the same funeral home:
One for a Ms. Waters, and one for a Mr.Rainey

Ms. Comfort

Also a few days ago there was a writeup about a girl, last name Pood, who finished basic training. Maybe one day she'll get married and be rid of that name. Best wishes.

The obit for "Carrion" indicated it was an Hispanic lady--maybe carrion means something else in Spanish, but when I hear that word I think of 2 day old road kill..

I had one child in therapy who was called Acquanetta. I think her mother must have been desperate and took the name off a can of hair spray.

Oh my goodness; I've known two Acquanetta's, both black ladies, and one admitted she got stuck with that name because her mother thought the name of the hair spray was so beautiful. I think the Tresemme hair products is is lovely name too, but wouldn't stick that moniker on a kid.

My grandson's middle name is "Danger" because my stupid SIL was trying to be cute. My daughter is so embarrassed.

Years ago an editor and I kept lists of odd names and would periodically compare them. I particularly remember Vanilla Stinchcombe.

Now that takes the cake!

You know how I love those odd names, and it seems like many times the rest of the family - the brothers and sisters have really good first names to go with those last names. Sometimes there were so many siblings I'm counting on my fingers and marveling at what a big family that was growing up, and no wonder the parents had to get creative with first names.

I wonder why on earth a mother would name a child See Bell. I think when parents can't think up a name, go to the Bible, there's lots of good names in there (Well Ahab and Ezekiel maybe not, haha.)
