It's been hot as hell here, day after day of blazing heat, no rain at all where I live--now, seven miles north a random cloud dropped rain on the town, enough to leave puddles, but not anywhere south of there. The grass in the yard is shriveling, but I don't water the yard, never have. I did water my cucumbers and (failing) pepper plants this am.
To avoid the heat, I went to Wallymart at 4am Friday morning. Got home at 6:30am, cool going and coming, no trouble with parking etc. I get so tired of cooking, so I bought cottage cheese and fruit and stuff like that. So what happens? My cousin Ellie went to the U Pick 'Em farm Saturday morning and picked fresh produce.
She brough me a cantaloupe, a sack of tomatoes, a carton of grape tomatoes, a cabbage, and three eggplants. So many people were there the cukes and green beans had already been picked clean. I felt obligated to cook this bounty. I cooked the cabbage with a corned beef I already made, baked a pone of cornbread, and made eggplant parmesan. I ate the cantaloupe while I waited for everything to get done.
I WILL NOT COOK TODAY! Whoopee! The stove is cleaned and dishes washed. It's startin' out to be a good Sunday!
Susil
growing and I have to stake it now. I can't wait for my own
home-grown tomatoes! Yum.
