Tricked 20081104

When I was at the Dr's office today, I listed the exercises I'm doing now. These include jumping jacks and vertical jumping. Those are both considered good ones for osteo because of the impact. It's not the jump, it's the fall. Dr suggested that a better approach would be to play basketball. In keeping with his idea of overall health, basketball provides the right type of exercise, but it involves social interaction too.

I've never played basketball and was terrible at it in gym in high school.

I have dreaded the day when Kitty will ask me to play with her. It doesn't seem likely that she will because of her lack of interest in any sport. That's a topic of its own.

Dinner this evening was a fund-raiser event at a restaurant near the school. When we arrived, there was a "help wanted" sign on one of the doors. Over an hour after ordering, we learned why that was a problem. When ordering I tried to make it clear to the clerk that I wanted the Boca version of one of their burgers. I explained that several times. When our food finally arrived, I looked at the top of the burger. Bocas are molded discs that are very similar to meat burgers and this one looked right, so I started in on it. The texture didn't seem quite Boca-ish and my sense of taste isn't so good, but eventually I checked more thoroughly. When I looked under the patty, I saw the puddle-fat stuff that burgers get on them and knew it was definitely wrong, so I sent it back. Before I figured it out, I ate about a third of that nasty thing. This other food server understood the problem and in only another half hour later, we were ready. This time with my burger in a to-go box. Sometimes it would be useful if I could speak Spanish.

When we arrived home, I opened the box and checked. This time it's a veggie patty, not a Boca, but a patty with veggies in it. One of us will have it for lunch tomorrow.

On the way home we talked about my upcoming travel schedule. Kitty cried because I'm going to be gone so long. It was originally going to be two trips, one for two different projects. The schedule for one kept slipping, so now they abut. The managers of that one don't want to slip it more because that means moving to Dec because of Thanksgiving. My "boss" for the other, second trip, used the crying related to her project's trip last year as leverage to talk them out of me going on the first trip, which is nice of her, but putting words into my mouth, especially when her trip is over twice as long. My getting out of that one is not an option as far as she's concerned, of course. Kind of twisted logic there.

It is tough that you have to travel so much. I would have a hard time.
What makes a boca burger boca?

how long are you going to be gone?
And MAN you could sue over the burger issue... Not that you would, but you could...
I recently had that heppen with Chinese food. I ordered the Vegan Vegetable beef lo mein and I SWEAR it was real beef. I made R try it, he said it wasn't beef (the texture was off) but the texture and flavor was way off to me so I threw it all out...
Trials and tribulations...

Oh, poor Kitty.I never cried when my Dad had to go away anywhere. I couldn't wait for him to leave. Her crying must mean you're a good dad.

So did you get sick from the meat? I think those veggie patty ones are pretty gross. I'm on a TVP kick right now.

Could you start out shooting hoops by yourself until you felt comfortable playing basketball with others? I think that a group of adults would have a different vibe than high school gym students.

Yes, ordering out can be tricky. Good Luck with the work trips.

Never getting the food you order would be a good way to stay slim/loose weight.
Just how long are your business trips? DH has never been gone for more than a week at a time but even that's too long for me.
