I knew when the envelope stated in red letters, "CONFIDENTIAL!" and "Survey", whoever it was wanted my money.
Turned out to be from the Democratic National Committee. I made a big mistake many years ago and gave a donation to them. I'm paying for it this year--in junk mail.
It looks so official: 2008 Presidential Campaign Survey, prepare for....... I have my own registration number (participant code)19 numbers and letters long! Are there that many of us?
I need to verify I'm willing to participate--why, I don't know. I'm assured my responses will be kept confidential. Swell--I wouldn't want it any other way.
Then comes 16 of the stupidest questions ever asked, like how often I vote democratic, and, if I plan to vote, and, if I'm optimistic a Democrat will win, and....., well, they're just too crazy to repeat. The last question asks "...will you join the DNC as a contributing member today?", and if yes, for how much?
I can just see them opening my sent envelope, pouring over my survey responses and entering my opinion into a computer. They might even say, "Gee, that's nice. He also wrote a check". Yeah, right.
Call me a cynic if you want. I just don't believe that's going to happen. I've done filed the survey in the circular.
