If, after my first 100 days of teaching, I was given a "report card", I'd be pretty upset. I wonder how President Obama feels about it?
Either as a teacher or a president, I think it's a bit premature to be grading job performance.
My local newspaper includes a "rapid response" section every Sunday, and grading the first 100 days was the most recent topic. As expected, but not any less appalling, were the marks and comments given by some readers:
"I would give him an F. He needs to stop apologizing for America. And quit spending money." (Note the run-on sentence.)
"He's broken his campaign promises" (stimulus amount, defense spending, and earmarks ban). D-
"He is trying to do too much too fast without thinking of the consequences. Spending way too much. D- "
"Expensive. F"
"Obama has humiliated the U.S. in his first 100 days. He shakes hands with and apologizes to dictators. F"
In fairness, there were some positive comments with A's given (mostly women). But there are many people who just don't get it. These quoted comments echo the current Republican mindset. They still believe the Bush ways are right--ignore foreign leaders who are at odds with us, torture "enemies", "drill baby, drill", deny responsibility (for just about anything that's happened the past 8 years).
Thankfully, President Obama has been given a near 70% job approval rate. The Republicans, on the other hand, are clinging to a miserable 21% "thumbs up" (Gallop). It's a shame a few
naysayers are so vociferous (the Limbaughs, Gingriches, etc.) Back off all you jerks. Give the Democrats a chance. You had yours and blew it.
